May 23, 2019: Wisdom, Stature, Favor with God & Man
For as long as I can remember, I’ve equated success with satisfaction. As a student, I believed I was always just an “A” away from being happy. As an athlete or a professional, I thought that winning and advancement were the keys to fulfillment. And to the outside world, the strategy served me well. I earned my PhD as a 4.0 student before I turned 30 and was a published author and a tenured professor before 40. I had worked with elite athletes in the NFL, minor league baseball, and major college sports. I had owned a training business and had dedicated almost my entire career to impacting the world of athletic performance, especially for young athletes.
There was just one problem: I was miserable.
About a year ago, I reached a dark and lonely place in my personal and professional life. I felt desperate, alone, and without purpose. Something HAD to change.
Finally, NOTHING did.
And by changing NOTHING, it changed EVERYTHING.
Now obviously, that sounds crazy. But it is true. To the outside world, I was still the same guy at the same job with the same wife living in the same house driving the same car. But inside, I was radically changed.
I have spent the past year of my life working on the unseen habits that had been robbing my joy and hindering growth. I committed to regular fitness and better nutrition. I committed to be in a personal development book of some sort at all times. I committed to regular prayer and spiritual development. And I committed to deepening relationships with a few close friends.
In short, I decided to go ALL IN.
What I discovered was that my approach had been effective…but completely wrong. Life had been about accomplishment, achievement, and climbing the next rung on my ladder to the top—wherever and whatever that was.
By focusing on my needs, my goals, and my dreams at all times, I was actually undermining them. I stumbled across a revolutionary piece of advice, and it has literally changed my life.
Replace all your goals with just one objective: TO HELP OTHERS REACH THEIRS.
The results have been dramatic and almost immediate. Over the span of 12 months, I have grown into the best physical condition of my life. I’ve read more than 20 books that have fundamentally altered how I think and how I work. My relationships with my family and friends are dramatically improved, and I’m happier spiritually than I have ever been.
In short, my idea worth spreading is that dramatic change is sometimes completely invisible.
But it comes from WITHIN.
Better. Every. Day.
